b'A MORE INCLUSIVE FIRMMIATTY RETREATAs a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 MIATTY Retreat was fully virtual for the first time in the events history. Organizers seized this opportunity to invite the entire Mintz family to several of the retreat sessions, allowing more of us to network and to hear about intersectionality, systemic racism, and racial justice. After a turbulent and distressing year, the annual retreat was an excellent vehicle to engage with all of Mintz on the critical topics of diversity, inclusion, and equity.Over the course of four days, MIATTY hosted several virtual panel discussions and educational events designed both for the entire firm and for the affinity groups membership. Day one of the virtual retreat, captioned Diversity and Intersectionality at Mintz and Beyond, included threeexpertsindiversityincorporatesettings:CristinaHernandez,DirectorofInclusion StrategyatNetflix;RobertFalk,GeneralCounselatTheTruthInitiative;andDr.Tsedale Melaku, sociologist, author, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CUNY. The panel defined the meaning of intersectionality and discussed the ways that intersecting forms of power and privilege further serve to marginalize certain individuals and groups. The second panel for the day focused on Mintzs existing affinity groups and was designed not only to educate the broader firm about the activities and programs organized by MIATTY, PRIDE, and the Womens Initiative, but also to hear reactions from the affinity group leaders to a number of issues and ideas. Another firm-wide open session focused on Engaging Racial Justice. Speakers addressed topics in racial justice by highlighting both the work of the firms racial justice partners from our community of incredible pro bono clients as well as firm-led initiatives to promote racial justice. The remaining sessions were designed for MIATTY affinity group members to get to know one another better and also to give the group various opportunities to develop strategic programandinitiativesideasforMIATTYandtobrainstormnewwaysforthegroupto advance the shared goals of equity within the firm for all attorneys, patent agents, and other professionals. Despite being virtual, the 2020 MIATTY Retreat was a great success. The firm-wide sessions attracted a very large audience from across Mintzs offices, legal sections, and administrative departments, and the technology made it possible for people to have a great virtual networking experience.About MIATTYMIATTY is our affinity group for minority attorneys and senior professionals.Itworkstoenhanceopportunities, retention, and advancement for attorneys of color. p. 11'
