Charles is a Member in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice, representing market leaders in high stakes patent disputes. For over a decade, he has navigated the complexities of federal District Courts, the US International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Charles is known for developing integrated, multi-forum strategies that align litigation tactics with business objectives. His track record includes delivering ITC trial victories, winning an eight-figure District Court verdict, and consistently achieving early resolutions or favorable settlements through aggressive post-grant strategies.

With a PhD in electrical engineering, Charles is well versed in a wide spectrum of technical fields including semiconductors, telecommunications systems, sensors, circuits and electronics, software, and AI driven technologies. He draws on years of research experience, including many peer reviewed publications and two issued US patents, and translates complex innovations into winning legal strategies.

Prior to joining Mintz, Charles served as a litigation attorney at a large international firm, where he managed day-to-day execution in major patent disputes, including ITC investigations, multi-jurisdictional matters, and PTAB proceedings. Before that, he practiced for several years in the Dallas offices of two other large firms, working in litigation and patent prosecution roles and drafting or prosecuting hundreds of patent applications for high-tech clients.

Charles earned his JD, magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he served as senior articles editor of the SMU Science & Technology Law Review. He also holds a PhD and MS in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University and a BE in automation from Huazhong University of Science & Technology.

Charles is based in the Washington, DC office and lives in Texas, working primarily remotely.
