Mintz Adds Leading Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Litigators in Boston

Mintz announces that two new Members, Scott Lashway and Chris Lisy, have joined the firm’s Boston office in its Data & Privacy Litigation and Investigations Practice.

“Cybersecurity and data privacy continue to be top of mind for our clients across industries,” said Bob Bodian, Managing Member. “Scott and Chris bring highly diverse and sophisticated skillsets that complement Mintz’s elite team of cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection lawyers and further strengthen our position as a litigation powerhouse.”

Scott, who will serve as Co-chair of Mintz’s Privacy & Cybersecurity practice, is one of the nation’s leading advisors on a wide range of cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence (AI) matters. He regularly serves as go-to counsel for significant disputes, corporate crises, and investigations as well as for privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, and AI advisory work. He has represented clients across a range of industries with a focus on the technology, health care, and financial services sectors. Scott’s success has been recognized by industry authorities, including Chambers Global (2024); Chambers USA: Top-Ranked Attorneys (2023); Lawdragon: 500 Leading Cybersecurity Attorneys Globally (2024); Massachusetts Lawyer’s Weekly: Go-To Lawyers: Cybersecurity and Data Privacy (2022 and 2024); Lawdragon: 500 Leading Litigators in America (2022 and 2024); The Best Lawyers in America (2021 – 2024); and Cybersecurity Docket, Incident Response Top 50 cybersecurity lawyers globally (2022 – 2024).

Chris has achieved notable success in the courtroom and secured favorable outcomes in “bet-the-company” representations across the country, including disputes involving cutting-edge technology and amounts in dispute exceeding billions of dollars. In litigation concerning data theft, trade secret, and non-compete issues, he has obtained — and defeated — numerous preliminary and permanent injunctions involving trade secrets and proprietary business information. He is also a trusted advisor to global financial services and insurance organizations, as well as their directors and officers, and frequently defends those clients in complex litigation and class actions involving shareholders, policy owners, and agents. Chris was recently recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the category of Privacy and Data Security Law (2024).

“Scott and Chris have successfully navigated high-stakes privacy and data security matters for more than two decades,” said Seth Goldman, Chair of the Antitrust, Employment, and Litigation Division at Mintz. “Their in-depth domain knowledge and vast experience in privacy and data breach litigation and investigations will enhance the full spectrum of services we provide to clients on cybersecurity, incident response, data protection, privacy, and related AI challenges.”

Prior to joining Mintz, Scott and Chris worked for a national law firm. Scott founded that firm’s Boston office and served as Office Managing Partner and co-leader of the privacy and cybersecurity practice group. Another attorney, who previously worked with Scott and Chris, has also joined Mintz’s Data & Privacy Litigation and Investigations practice.
