Mintz Appoints John Koss to Drive the Firm's AI-Powered Future as Firm’s First Chief Innovation and AI Officer

Mintz has elevated John Koss to serve as the firm's first Chief Innovation & AI Officer, reinforcing Mintz's commitment to responsible AI adoption, practical innovation, and the future of technology-enabled legal services. In this newly created role, he will continue to lead Mintz's E-Data Consulting Group and Knowledge Management and Innovation team while overseeing the firm's innovation strategy, AI investments, and technology initiatives.

The creation of the role reflects the growing importance of dedicated leadership at the intersection of legal services, technology, and business strategy. As an attorney and business leader at Mintz for more than two decades, John has helped shape the firm's approach to technology, data, and innovation, with a focus on enhancing the client experience and improving how the firm operates.

“AI is redefining what's possible in legal services, and that shift calls for focused leadership and a clear strategy,” said Jason McCord, Chief Operating Officer at Mintz. “His rare combination of legal judgment, technical fluency, and practical business insight makes him the right person to lead this work and help us translate emerging technology into meaningful value for our clients and our people.”

A key architect of Mintz's nationally recognized E-Data Consulting Group, John has helped establish and expand the team's leadership in e-discovery, information governance, and data-driven legal services. His work advising clients on AI, information governance, and emerging technologies has positioned him at the forefront of the evolving intersection of law, data, and innovation.

As Mintz's first Chief Innovation & AI Officer, John will lead a coordinated, firmwide strategy for putting emerging technologies to practical use. John will oversee the firm's agentic technology initiatives, AI investments, client-facing and internal development capabilities, and the continued evolution of pricing and staffing models. He will also lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and responsibly scale technologies that strengthen client service, create new capabilities, and improve firm operations.

“Mintz has long embraced innovation as a strategic differentiator, and I am honored to be the first person to serve in this role,” said John. “AI is creating new opportunities to rethink how legal work is delivered, but realizing its value requires more than adopting new tools. It requires close collaboration among lawyers, technologists, and business professionals, along with careful attention to quality, security, and our clients' needs. I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to turn emerging technologies into practical solutions and new sources of value.”
