Richard E. Mikels, Chairman of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Section and Adjunct Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law, has been named the Best Lawyers’ 2013 Boston Litigation - Bankruptcy “Lawyer of the Year.” In 2010, Best Lawyers named Mr. Mikels the Boston Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights “Lawyer of the Year.” Since its first publication in 1983, Mr. Mikels has been named in every volume of The Best Lawyers in America.
Best Lawyers, which compiles annual listings of outstanding lawyers through a rigorous peer-review process, selects a single lawyer in each specialty in each community to honor as the “Lawyer of the Year.” These lawyers have received particularly high ratings by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
Mr. Mikels has over 40 years of experience in the areas of commercial law, workouts, and reorganizations. He maintains a national practice, focusing on insolvency issues and business restructurings, both in Chapter 11 and in out-of-court workouts. He frequently represents debtors and other constituencies, including secured and unsecured creditors and acquirers of businesses in Chapter 11 cases.
A fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, Mr. Mikels currently serves as the organization’s Vice President and Chairman of the Education Committee. He is the Co-Chair of an Advisory Committee to the American Bankruptcy Institute Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11. Mr. Mikels also serves as the Chairman of the American Bankruptcy Institute Mediation Sub-Committee on Model Rules.
