Mintz Continues Strategic Growth of Its Patent Litigation Team with San Francisco Partner and Litigator for Life Sciences Innovators
Mintz is pleased to welcome Tung-On (T.O.) Kong, who has joined the firm as a Member in its Intellectual Property Division. A nationally recognized life sciences patent strategist, T.O. brings more than two decades of trial and appellate experience representing pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and diagnostics companies in bet-the-company disputes.
“Our life sciences clients will benefit immediately from T.O.’s ability to lead consequential patent disputes with clarity and exceptional advocacy,” said Managing Member Bob Bodian. “He is a force in life sciences IP litigation, and his combination of technical acumen and courtroom experience makes him an exceptional addition. This is exactly the kind of bold, strategic talent Mintz continues to attract.”
An accomplished first-chair trial lawyer, T.O. has litigated some of the most commercially significant Hatch-Waxman and competitor patent disputes. His work spans federal district courts nationwide, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he has argued appeals that helped shape today’s patent landscape.
Across the pharmaceutical industry, T.O. is known for steering companies through litigation and producing successful outcomes. His experience spans a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, dermatology, women’s health, and respiratory disease.
“Life sciences companies today need litigators who can command complex trials while working seamlessly within a broader strategic framework,” said Siegmund Gutman, Chair, Life Sciences Litigation Practice. “T.O.’s outstanding trial experience strengthens the continuum of support we provide – from safeguarding core IP to creating market opportunities to navigating regulatory pathways and executing the transactions that bring new therapies to market. His courtroom leadership enhances the multidisciplinary team our clients count on.”
“I’m excited to join Mintz, a firm that genuinely understands the business of life science innovation,” said T.O. “The synergy between Mintz’s strong, multidisciplinary platform and my litigation practice is unique and powerful. I look forward to combining my trial experience with an already talented team and notching victories for our clients.”
T.O. joins Mintz during a period of significant litigation expansion, marked by the recent additions of a six-partner antitrust litigation team led by Philip Iovieno and ITC Practice Co-chair Robert Vlasis, further strengthening the firm’s top-tier trial capabilities.
