He has represented cedents and reinsurers in complex treaty reinsurance disputes regarding premium and risk transfer, breach of contract claims, and claims or defenses relating to contractual recission. Matt has also represented cedents and retrocessionaires in life reinsurance disputes, including disputes involving YRT reinsurance agreements, jumbo limits, and claim administration. Additionally, he has represented insurers in state and federal court litigation across the country regarding opioid coverage, principal-agent relationships, and premium financing arrangements.
Prior to joining Mintz, Matt was an associate in the New York office of a global litigation and dispute resolution firm, where he focused on breach of contract litigation, general liability actions, commercial litigation, labor law actions, and insurance coverage litigation. His experience included preparing opinion letters for US and international corporations on issues such as COVID-19, recently enacted tax legislation, and the validity of forum selection clauses in international contracts.
While pursuing his law degree at St. John’s University School of Law, Matt served as executive director of the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute and was a senior staff member for the Journal of Civil Rights and Economic Development.
