Mintz Celebrates Two Decades in New York

For Mintz, 2020 marks two decades of top-tier client service and strategic firm growth in New York City. Attorneys and staff in the New York office and others across the firm recently gathered virtually to celebrate this important milestone in the firm’s history.

“Mintz New York is a close-knit community of exceptional lawyers and staff,” said Stephen J. Gulotta, Jr., Managing Member of Mintz’s New York office and Chair of the firm’s New York Corporate Practice. “We are thankful for each individual’s contributions, the opportunity to reflect on the past 20 years, and the support from our colleagues to keep moving forward.”

Mintz was among the first Boston-headquartered law firms to expand into the competitive New York market. Mintz Member and Chair of the firm’s International Practice, Richard Kelly, spearheaded the New York expansion efforts, lobbying firm leaders and identifying and leasing office space in the iconic Chrysler Building. In the early days, Mintz distinguished itself in the New York market through its strength representing technology companies, and has since built upon this groundwork and expanded into a number of key areas. When the firm opened its doors at the Chrysler Building on January 1, 2000, the office had just seven lawyers. Two decades later, Mintz boasts over 100 New York-based attorneys, many in the firm’s nationally-ranked Corporate and Litigation Practices.

Over the past five years, Mintz has experienced substantial and sustained revenue growth. In 2019, the firm achieved its fifth consecutive year of record-breaking returns. Mintz’s New York office is a key contributor to this firmwide success.

Mintz’s Managing Member, Bob Bodian, noted at the celebratory event that “our New York office is a sensational place, and continues to be a significant part of the firm’s strategic growth and success, with the expertise of both long-term Members and recent lateral additions to our partnership.” In 2009, after just nine years at Mintz, Mr. Bodian became the firm’s managing partner –  the first New Yorker to lead the Boston-based firm.

Notably, even during the pandemic, Mintz has added several leading practitioners in New York, including litigators Courtney Rockett, Jeremy Vest, Suman Chakraborty, and Douglas Baumstein, and mergers and acquisitions specialist Ivan Presant.
