We hope you can join us for The Mintz Employment Law Summit taking place on June 15th in San Diego. This year’s program is designed to address some key challenges facing employers, with a focus on the recent and ever-changing California laws, regulations, and court decisions and their critical impact on employers state-wide, and managing mental health matters in the workplace with compassion, care and compliance.

As has been the case for the last few years, 2023 brought a variety of employment law changes for California employers. Between the “PAGA Saga,” arbitration back in play, and developments in wage transparency, employers in the Golden State have, and will continue to have, compliance challenges. This segment will delve into these recent and ever-changing California laws, regulations, and court decisions and their critical impact on employers state-wide.

Managing Mental Health Matters in the Workplace with Compassion, Care and Compliance (9:40 - 10:40 AM)

Nearly 1 in 5 Americans may experience some form of mental illness each year. Given this statistic, mental health issue invariably impact the workplace. The FMLA, Federal and state disability laws, substance abuse issues, accommodations, and other issues relating to mental health and wellness are key aspects of a well-managed workplace – and a workplace that cares for employees. This panel will explore the key role employers’ play in managing employee mental health and wellness, practical solutions from the HR perspective, guidance regarding compliance with federal, state, and local laws and important resources and strategies for employers and employees.

Randy Clark currently serves as senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Sempra Infrastructure. Most recently, Randy was chief administrative officer and chief human resources officer for Sempra LNG, where he lead Sempra LNG’s business services function that includes human resources and organizational development, technology and cybersecurity, external affairs and communications, supply management, and business transformation. Randy has served in various leadership and legal capacities at the Sempra family of companies over the last 20 years.

With 20 years of experience as a benefits manager and 15 years of experience as a Health & Performance Consultant, Lane brings a depth of expertise including employee benefits management, human resources management and population health development. Immediately prior to joining Hub International, Lane was a Senior Vice President with Bank of America where she held positions in Health and Welfare (H&W) Benefits Design and Delivery. While at Bank of America, Lane led the development and implementation of new health care strategies and programs and managed H&W administration for associates and retirees.
Jennifer B. Rubin is a Mintz Member who advises clients on employment issues like wage and hour compliance. Her clients range from start-ups to Fortune 50 companies and business executives in the technology, financial services, publishing, professional services, and health care industries.

Paul M. Huston is an attorney in Mintz's employment labor and benefits practice group, where he litigates employment and general commercial issues. Paul has experience handling single plaintiff and class action lawsuits, covering issues from wrongful termination to disability discrimination.
Mintz attorney Nicole M. Rivers defends employers in employment litigation and labor matters and advises on employment best practices. She handles cases involving claims of wage and hour violations, harassment, retaliation, discrimination, breach of employment agreements, FMLA violations, and violations of California's Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), Family Rights Act (CFRA), and Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).
