Walker is a registered patent agent who drafts and prosecutes US and international patent applications and regularly conducts product clearance and validity analysis, drafts corresponding opinions, and provides litigation support. He has extensive experience in a wide range of biological and biochemical technologies including antibody therapeutics, immune and metabolic modulators, gene therapy, next-generation sequencing, single-cell transcriptome analysis, bioinformatics systems, diagnostics, microfluidics, personalized medicine, pharmaceutical formulations, stem cell therapy, small molecule therapeutics, green technologies, GMOs, waste remediation, and medical treatments.
Prior to joining Mintz, Walker worked as a patent agent at several San Diego–area law firms, including two international firms and a boutique IP law practice group. He also worked in-house as a patent agent at a global life sciences reagent provider. Prior to becoming a registered patent agent, Walker was a Senior Scientist/Director at Kyowa Kirin, Inc., formerly Gemini Science, Inc., and a Scientist at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology. Walker’s diverse scientific background includes laboratory research in the fields of molecular biology, endocrinology, immunology, cell signaling, gene regulation, antibody biologics, protein expression & purification and drug development.
Walker holds a PhD in biochemistry and a BA in biology, with a minor in chemistry.
