Rob focuses on patent law, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, rendering opinions on infringement and validity, licensing, due diligence investigations, litigation support, and client counseling with an emphasis on electrical systems, telecommunications, software, social media, video games, medical devices, bioinformatics, mechanical devices, imaging systems, unmanned aerial systems, robotics, maritime technologies, and business methods.

As well as managing IP portfolios for large companies, Rob is also extensively involved in Southern California start-up environment. He counsels early-stage companies on their initial corporate development as well as their IP strategy. Rob particularly enjoys helping early-stage start-ups in San Diego position themselves to succeed in today’s competitive environment.

Prior to joining the firm, Rob was an intellectual property associate in the San Diego office of another international law firm, where he was part of the social media and games, water resources, and unmanned aerial systems teams. Before this, he was an associate in a law firm based in Ohio, where he helped develop large patent portfolios in the fields of steel manufacturing, mining, medical devices, and other heavy industry technologies. Rob has also drafted infringement and validity opinions of patents in the fields of software, video games, steel manufacturing, production of iron from ore, and wireless communications.

Before becoming a lawyer, Rob worked as a business analyst in London, where he implemented multiple IT infrastructure projects for a variety of clients.
