Ute is a registered Patent Agent with more than 10 years of experience. She focuses her practice on patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, patent life-cycle management, and client counseling within a wide range of life-science technologies, including organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology. Her experience includes conducting due diligence and providing freedom-to-operate, competitive landscape, and validity analyses.

In addition to her law firm experience, Ute worked in-house as a patent professional in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and worked as a scientist for two start-up companies. She brings the client perspective to her role and knows what it means to develop a technology “at the bench” and to collaborate with legal counsel to obtain strong and valuable patents. Ute is a co-inventor on a number of US patents for small-molecule kinase inhibitors and proteasome inhibitors, one of which was developed into a marketed drug.

Prior to joining Mintz Levin, Ute served as a Patent Agent at a biotechnology company in Maryland, where she managed a major patent portfolio, oversaw US and international patent prosecution, collaborated with scientists to identify new inventions, prepared invention disclosure forms, and drafted new patent applications.
