IP Strategist Daniel Brownstone Joins Mintz in New York

Daniel Brownstone has joined Mintz as a Member in the firm’s Intellectual Property Division, adding depth to the firm’s IP Prosecution Practice and contributing to its continued growth in the market. He will be based in the firm’s New York office.

With over two decades of experience, Dan has helped companies secure and protect software and technology assets through strategic patent drafting, portfolio management, and international coordination, representing clients across sectors such as fintech, aviation, AI, and digital health. 

“Dan is a highly skilled IP practitioner who views patent prosecution as a strategic driver of business growth and innovation,” says Managing Member Bob Bodian. “His experience guiding clients through IP strategy alongside corporate growth, from startup formation to exit, aligns with our multidisciplinary approach and deepens our capabilities in New York and beyond.”

In addition to developing and managing patent portfolios, Dan advises clients on licensing, technology collaborations, and commercialization strategies. He also guides startups on foundational IP issues, ranging from ownership, branding, and open source to copyright and trade secret protection. He often serves as companies’ first outside IP counsel and a trusted advisor as they scale.

Dan joins Mintz from Fenwick. He earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law and holds a B.A. in Computer Science and Economics from Duke University.
