Dan is a strategic intellectual property attorney with more than two decades of experience. Throughout his practice, Dan has helped innovative companies secure and protect software and technology assets through strategic patent drafting, portfolio management, and international coordination. His clients range from early-stage startups to global tech leaders across sectors such as fintech, aviation, AI, and digital health. His work integrates patent strategy with broader intellectual property considerations, ensuring clients’ innovations are protected and positioned for growth.

Dan is particularly experienced in developing US and international patent portfolios for software-enabled platforms and has advised extensively on IP issues arising in funding rounds, M&A, and licensing transactions. He works closely with founders and engineers to translate innovative ideas into well-crafted, enforceable patents that align with business goals.

In addition to developing and managing patent portfolios, Dan advises clients on licensing, technology collaborations, and commercialization strategies. He also guides startups on foundational IP issues — ranging from ownership, branding, and open source to copyright and trade secret protection — often serving as their first outside IP counsel and a trusted advisor as they scale.

Dan is recognized for patent prosecution by Legal 500 (2024), IAM Patent 1000 (2018–2020, 2022–2024), and Who’s Who Legal (2024). He actively contributes to AIPPI and AIPLA and works closely with a trusted network of international IP counsel around the world.

Dan earned his JD from Washington University in St. Louis and his AB in computer science and economics from Duke University. He is registered to practice before the USPTO and admitted in California, New York, and Washington, DC. He is based in Mintz’s New York office.
