Mintz Welcomes 21 Lateral Members in 2020

Mintz welcomed 21 lateral Members to the firm in 2020, spanning various practice areas and five of the firm’s seven offices.

Mintz’s 2020 lateral Member hires brought years of expertise in complex commercial litigation, insurance and reinsurance, securities, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds, telecommunications, real estate, tax, energy and sustainability, project finance, and other areas. Moreover, several new laterals took on leadership positions within the firm’s key practices.

“We are pleased to have been in a position to add so many accomplished attorneys to the firm this year, especially during the pandemic,” said Mintz Managing Member Bob Bodian. “We expect to keep up the momentum in 2021, continuing to make impactful hires that align with the needs of our clients and help deliver our high standard of client service.”

While the legal industry grappled with extraordinary challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, and pivoted to a newly remote workforce, Mintz remained active and fast-paced in hiring, attracting a steady stream of talented laterals. The firm was able to keep up with its strategic recruiting plan in part due to its sound financials — in 2019, Mintz achieved its fifth consecutive year of record-breaking returns. Moreover, over the course of its past five fiscal years, the firm’s revenue is up 47.8%, profits per equity partner are up 54.0%, and revenue per lawyer is up 29.2%.

In addition to hiring across disciplines and geographies, Mintz is committed to hiring and nurturing attorneys from diverse backgrounds, including women and Black attorneys. In his Juneteenth 2020 memo, Mr. Bodian announced a multi-step diversity and inclusion plan that includes a firm goal of increasing the number of Black attorneys by 50% by June 30, 2022, among other actions. As part of this plan, Mintz donated $150,000 between three nonprofits focused on civil rights, and separately, Member Narges Kakalia assumed a new role as the firm’s first Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Recently, the firm elevated nine new Members from within, seven of whom are women and three of whom are diverse.
