Pro Bono

When the court ordered a social worker to produce a written summary of a patient’s treatment, their counsel at the Victim Rights Law Center (VRLC) reached out to Mintz and attorney Katharine Foote for support.

For the twelfth consecutive year, Mintz organized a pro bono clinic bringing together in-house counsel and nonprofit organizations. Following a training session on privacy, data security, and social media policies led by Mintz Member Geri L. Haight and Associate Christopher J. Buontempo, more than 35 in-house counsel teamed up in small groups to advise Boston-area nonprofits.

For over a decade, Mintz has helped organize and host a pro bono clinic brining together in-house counsel and nonprofit organizations. The most recent event included a training session on privacy, data security, and social media policies.

Mintz has counseled Diana, a sexual assault survivor, and helped secure her a rare permanent restraining order against her attacker. Protected by this permanent order, Diana is now studying for a master’s degree in social work to help others in crisis.

Through a collaboration with the Hofstra | Northwell Medical Legal Partnership (MLP), Mintz helped a woman suffering from endometriosis to successfully appeal a denial of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits.

Mintz helped represent Christina Griffin-Jones in a case challenging a lengthy police seizure of her cellphone without a warrant following her arrest at a Black Lives Matter protest. As part of a July 2022 settlement, the City of San Diego agreed to a new policy requiring officers to either obtain a warrant to hold or search any phone they seize, or to promptly return the phone.
